About the Book
It was divided into three main parts in which the first part is about author’s life in the United State, the second is about thoughts and philosophical ideas, and the third part is about author’s life back in her homeland, Vietnam. Each part contains poems that describe events, situations and emotions or feelings accompanied to each of the poem. They include daily life’s small events such as going to shop, to school and to church to big events such as life-changing experiences of living under the North Vietnam’s communist regime. Emotions range from happy feelings due to pleasant living conditions in the US to sad and upset or angry feelings due to the poorness and oppressions resulted in bad economic conditions due to the ruling dictatorship of the communists. Somewhere in between the two opposite part I and III is part II in which there is a change in thoughts and ideas because it concentrates on some philosophy-related ideas and conception-related ideas. In short, author wants to show activities in two different life’s settings, one in her native country, Vietnam, and the other in her new, secondary country, the US.
