I Can Do This
Laura Mae Murphy
About the Book
This book, these Stories, were intended to be used by anyone who has the ability to help these individuals fit in wherever they go. If teachers could use these stories to introduce the problem and possibly the solution to the students prior to the introduction of the student with special needs or problems, there wouldn’t be so much apathy in the world. In using animals instead of names, there is no chance of anyone misunderstanding and transferring any of these topics onto anyone specific.
I’ve tried to cover as many issues as I could: communication, deafness, blindness, birth defects, epilepsy, amputees, etc. But the most important goal is acceptance. There could be role playing (i.e., someone could be the cow or the beaver or the iguana). Interaction could play an important role in getting the message across.
About the Author
Laura Mae (Lewis, Murphy) was born in Philadelphia as number two of nine children. She and her family moved twenty-three times in seventeen years, and she often went to three schools a year. Each move brought challenges, trying to catch up academically while trying to fit in socially.Deafness runs in her family and she is raising a mentally challenged daughter, Dawn Rene, who has right temporal lobe epilepsy and is bipolar. At forty-five, she functions at a 4.6 level but her biggest handicap is that she looks normal and everyone expects her to be normal. She becomes flustered and sometimes doesn’t understand why they don’t understand.

Donnie Jackson
About the Book
My name is Donnie Jackson, writer of Poetic Love Letters & More. I was born in Jamaica to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jackson. I’m the third of seven children, five sisters and one brother. I migrated to New Jersey, in the United States, in July 1974 where I still live with my wife and family. I started writing song lyrics in the early eighties, and I also wrote a couple of poems; “Life” and “It’s Not Funny”. But it wasn’t until around 2006 when I started writing more and more poems on a regular basis. I enjoy writing these poems. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.Poetic Love letters & More is a collection of poems that are likely to touch you in some way. They are based on life’s situations. They are taken from talking with friends, most of whom I met online. The poems display a lot of emotions which takes you from happy to sad, and all points between. YOU
Vane Lashua
About the Book
For the past 50-some years I have been threatening to write a book. I’ve written poetry, political essays, lettersto-the-editor and stories about my life. Some of these are included here. Originally I wanted the title to be “Accidental Tourist” until I found that there is a play and movie by that title. Because I’ve often found life events and direction somewhat random, it came to me as a good description. Then, because of a need for a new title, “You” emerged. As a young teen, I read the prologue poem by Auden from a Look magazine page. At first reading, it assigns life’s negative influences to another. As I “matured”, I came to realize that my “Overfamiliar Dense companion” is me — each of ours. I preserved and reflect often on that original page.About the Author
Working in a family print shop as I grew up led to my career, first in education and then to publishing and dramatic technology development — with R.R. Donnelley, Readers Digest, and Sothebys over 50 years. While working at Columbia University for 5 years “at the turn of the century”, I became fascinated with geothermal energy technology and have since attended conferences and visited geothermal energy sites. (http://thnktnk.net/drill.html) is a paper I wrote on the subject. Presently I am involved in several community organizations (Library, Park, Arts, Downtown, Bird Sanctuary) in my hometown where I moved five years ago from New York. I live there with my fiancée whom I re-met at our 50th high school reunion. We have enjoyed Europe, China and US0 travels together. -
Riding The Waves During A Pandemic
Will Your Family Survive Shelter in Place Again?
Meril R. Smith
About the Book
Do you believe in magic? In the best of all worlds, the Covid-19 virus will disappear just as suddenly as it appeared. If the Covid-19 Pandemic disappears, there is no reason to read this book. However, if this is not the best of all worlds and the Covid-19 Pandemic continues, Riding The Waves During A Pandemic is a book you need to own and to read. This book will help you and your family plan ahead and survive the daily social and emotional challenges of living through the next waves of the Covid-19 pandemic and survive it well.About the Author
Meril Smith grew up at the end of World War II with children of migrant farm workers, children born in the Japanese internment camps, and children of day laborers and blue-collar workers. Poverty, recessions, and helping each other were all basic parts of surviving. Living through the times of the Berlin Wall, the Salk polio vaccine, economic recessions, the space race, the development of Silicon Valley, and the Vietnam War fueled Meril’s passion for understanding people and events. His training, life experience, and career provides an excellent backdrop for writing Riding the Waves During A Pandemic. -
Lessons from Life
Phoolmatee Dubay
About the Book
The book is about the adversities the author experienced resulted from using and abusing drugs and alcohol which led to a diagnosis of a mental illness. The author explored her darkness from using drugs to experiencing her nervous breakdowns. If overcoming meant not using, she didn’t know or realize this until years later. She would go on to discover the support of friends and family members through their love, care, concern, and compassion for her. As the author accepted help, she learnt to give help to others as well. The author experienced changes, and it is her aim to share in these experiences as learning experiences. She found out that the effects of using and abusing drugs and alcohol caused addictions, nervous breakdowns, and led to a diagnosis of a mental illness called schizoaffective disorder. After her diagnosis, it took years for her to realize that using wasn’t right for her because it destroyed her mental health, but she did change by quitting the abuse of drugs and alcohol so to improve her mental health and well-being. The author didn’t do it by herself because she had the support of friends and family members that held her up even when she was down and picked her up when she needed their help. And this will be shown in the poems she has written for her potential readers.About the Author
Phoolmatee Dubay, born February 14th 1968, migrated to the US during 1992. She attended the Borough of Manhattan Community College and York College where she pursued her career educational goals in Human Services and Social Work respectively. The author’s poetry became a way of coping with her mental illness and coming to grips with reality after learning about the harm and dangers from using and abusing drugs and alcohol. As the author wrote in her poem “A Dark Place In My Head”, “As dark as an abyss in the mind where no light shines, even in the presence of light.” explored the dark side of using drugs and/or alcohol. While she discovered how to deal with life as she wrote in her poem, “I Deal With Life”. You may wonder how and why because as she wrote, “I couldn’t see life for what it was; therefore how could I accept it for what it is?” She would go one to state, “When I didn’t know I had doubts but now I have answers. This doesn’t mean that doubts are gone because I still need answers. Even while looking at life differently.” -
