The Story Of A Man
Marvin A. Hayes
About the Book
The Story Of A Man is a collection of poems that express emotions of love, pain, laughter, wisdom and self-reflection. Poetry has always been a passion of mine and it later became the avenue to express the memory of the comings and goings of my existence. This is the reason why I chose the title, “”The Story Of A Man.”” Many of the poems were written during my years in undergrad. My college years came and went; however years later I contemplated publishing them. It was then I decided to begin the journey to publish the story of my life. When thinking about the book cover and what I wanted to express to the reader, I chose to use my drawing of Muhammad Ali. Ali is one of my favourite hero’s and a poet himself. In fact the first poem in the book is about Muhammad Ali, a man with an amazing story of struggle and triumph. I selected his picture in hope of attracting the attention of readers who understand each person has an individual story. Just like Ali we all too may experience struggles, pain, and triumph. This book also includes photos that show that my life has been very full.
The photos in the book include pictures of my wife of 50yrs. Mrs. Geraldine Elaine Robinson Hayes, and our legacy which includes my two older children and our five children which makes for 30 grandchildren. I hope that each reader enjoys the poems and pictures and it encourages them to embrace the story of their own life.

Badges, Bullets and Bars
Daniel J. Shanahan
About the Book
Badges, Bullets and Bars is brutally honest, raw, and gritty autobiographical book. It depicts the good, the bad and the awful experiences and encompasses the continuous struggle between good and evil, righteousness and injustices, suffered throughout the author’s career as a former Baltimore City Police Officer. This courageous and compelling book charts the course of the author, who descends into a deep abyss from his beginning positions as a recruit, rookie, and generally innocent police cadet and later as a journeyman officer. His early life’s yearning was to become a law enforcement officer and motor patrolman which he achieved. However, his shining pride, loyalty and respect for the badge began to erode over time. He was driven to alcoholism.
The author ultimately disgraced the badge and became a racist, callused, hardened, jaded officer, and at times, totally uncaring, dysfunctional, troubled and possibly, mentally unstable police officer and human being all fostered by the criminal element that he had to endure during his 14-year tenure on the police force in the highest crime ridden district in Baltimore City – the Eastern District.
This District was notorious for its violence, murders, rapes, drugs, filth and disregard for human life. How the good and especially the bad, horrible and jaw dropping unfathomable experiences a police officer encounters in a City overrun with violence and death, is graphically depicted in the former TV series “Homicide: Life on the Street” and “The Wire.”
The book also follows the author through his two criminal indictments and subsequent incarcerations, both in Federal and local correctional institutions. It allows the reader to enter a world of prison uncertainty and at times, fear and anxiety for his own life, as a former policeman.
The contents of this book display how being a police officer in such an area can and will, completely change an officer’s demeanor, racist thoughts, actions, and life’s questions. And, at times, bring forth tears as one reflects at the inner core of all the good we learned, were raised to expect and to respect, and that which we encounter thru life’s journey. This book is MUST READ for anyone, who might want to examine and understand the trials, tribulations, pressures and stress put upon a police officer working in one of the highest crime areas of our country.

The Seasons
Poetry of the Heart
Keri McLeroy
About the Book
I chose “The Season: Poetry of the Heart” because of the different types of poems there are. There are poems that talk of love, friendship, pain and self-doubt. Poems that just talk about life, or the natural beauty that there is in life. Poems that even talk about Christ. The poems themselves can help with many cases because though they are my writings the thought behind poetry can always be the case for anyone and everyone. I know because I’ve gotten feedback on quite a few of these poems that they can hold different meanings. All hold a special place in my heart, though I would have to say “Strength to Surpass” is probably one that holds the most due to it being for me, my battle with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome but can stand for all sorts of health issues.
About the Author
My name is Keri M. McLeroy. I’m the oldest of 3 girls and I’m a Georgia native, born and raised. I’ve been told for many years now that I should publish my poems. I’ve been writing for at least 18 years and though it’s taking me this long to actually do anything with what I’ve written, I’m now giving it a shot. -
GOD’S CURE TO THE CORONAVIRUS
Dr. Vernard Johnson
About the Books
Our nation has several vaccines for the coronavirus. The Pfizer vaccine, the Moderna vaccine and the Johnson and Johnson vaccine just to name a few; but these vaccines are NOT the cure for the coronavirus. The vaccines help, but they are only a band aide. This book is not a health cure attempt for the coronavirus, nor is it a scientific attempt to cure the coronavirus, because the author does not believe that the coronavirus is completely a health or a scientific ‘problem’. The author believes that the coronavirus is a ‘spiritual problem’….and therefore, there must be a ‘spiritual solution or cure’. The author attempts to prove it in this book….GOD’S cure for the coronavirus.About the Author
Dr. Vernard Johnson is a living
legend in his own time. He was inducted into the International
Gospel Music Hall of Fame and given the Lifetime Achivement Award. Gospel music critics acclaimed him as the top gospel
music saxophonist on the planet, “The greatest gospel saxophonist in the world” and “The Most Influential Gospel Instrumentalist of All Times”, for he has influenced thousands of young people all across the world to play the saxophone and other types of instruments. -
The Lonely Mermaid & Other Fish Stories
LaVerne Johnson Baptiste
About the Book
LEGEND has it that the more a fish story is repeated or told time and time again, the fish tend to get bigger, and bigger, and bigger. A small child might wonder why this happens. In time, the young reader will learn that the storyteller, after the first telling of his or her story, becomes amused with his/her storytelling skill, and that the imagination can begin to “run away or run wild” with more and more interesting but untrue details. So the fish grows in size as the story grows in details and length. So get ready for the biggest fish tales ever! Reading is a journey. The stories in this book, The Lonely Mermaid, are journeys into nature, into the innocence and curiosity of childhood, into the human condition, and into the human experience. No matter how big the fish or the tales get, just enjoy the wonderful journeys while reading the stories.
In the Land of Simple Living and simple pleasures, where the summers were hot and long and the winters were mild, where cotton was king and to own land was heavenly, where fish jumped high, and the living was made by farming the land; where days by the ponds, lakes, streams, and creeks were also a simple way to survive.”About the Author
LaVerne Johnson Baptiste was an educator for 35 years. Now retired from the educational field, she would like to think that she has certainly been a life-long instructor because she began tutoring her neighbors and other friends since she first “played school” with the kids in the Community.
After graduating from college in Texas, she lived briefly in Dallas. In a few months she found herself in sunny California where agriculture, technology, and Hollywood movies were the major money-producing industries.
After being a dilettante at a few other job choices, while still teaching school, she decided that she and the classroom were inseparable. So that is where she remained until she turned in her keys. At the same time, a passion for writing was steadily taking root, and she kept these stories and ideas in her mind and close to her heart.
She recently moved back to her native state of Texas where these stories are now coming to life in print. She has done some extensive world traveling with only two continents left to visit. With nothing but time on her hands, all day to do nothing, and seven-day weekends, she decided to test her skills at writing to pass the time.
She does volunteer work in the community and continues to counsel her former students who will have a lasting and life-long attachment to their “other mother,” godmother, and big sister.
